its essential to the progress of culture, from which comes all history, that people in congestive situations of all kinds respond to the abundant unconscious collective promptings and release the occasional equivalent of a stinkbomb, even and necessarily at the expense of their own good odour. the need to be liked or to belong causes us to make partial approaches to the bald facts of mortal life, which in turn nets us in the snare of ever-repeating consequences of the pure-teaching kind.
perhaps the most pernicious influence in human culture is the inability to look at the phenomenal world, and our perception-downlimited experience of it, outside the box of our own rhetoric and its dogmatic, wishful constructions, and the like. so i feel its essential that people be willing to play the community role of unpleasant presence and bearer of bad news for the home team. we are constantly at war with ourselves because we keep avoiding the leap of orientation that now best becomes us.
